Each year, NBOA joins forces with a charitable organization to give back to a community in need. For this year's meeting, NBOA has teamed up with our Wednesday Keynote, Erin Gruwell's Freedom Writers Foundation.
The Freedom Writers Foundation has impacted over 1 million students with its Freedom Writers Methodology. Over 800 trained "Freedom Writer Teachers" in all 50 U.S. States and 20 countries are teaching thousands of students a day with the Foundation's student-centered, culturally-relevant approach. As they focus on helping their students find success both inside and outside the classroom, these educators are following in the footsteps of Ms. G and the Freedom Writers and changing the world one student at a time.
NBOA Annual Meeting participants will have an opportunity to make a donation that will contribute to the Foundation's Teacher Training Program, Outreach Program, Digital Social Emotional Learning Curriculum, and Scholarship Programs. All of these efforts make a difference in the lives of teachers and students around the world. Together, we can prove that education is the greatest equalizer of all!
