  • Analyzing and Communicating School Financial Health with The Composite Financial Index

    The composite financial index (CFI) is a sophisticated tool originally designed for higher-education institutions and recently updated and adapted for independent schools. Comprised of four key underlying ratios, the CFI compels simplified yet meaningful strategic financial analysis and conversations between the chief business officer, head of school and board of trustees. Attendees will explore their custom CFI score and model conversations with school leadership that will help implement this method of tracking and impacting school financial health within their institution.

    Learning Objective: Participants will learn about the CFI as an analytic tool and interpret the results of their CFI and understand related implications.

  • Sexual Abuse Prevention Initiatives and Creating a Culture of Safety

    Independent schools land across a wide continuum of complacency, compliance and commitment to abuse prevention. This workshop covers best practices for a customized approach to independent school sexual abuse prevention intitatives and creating a culture of safety. Through practical guidance of industry experts, including the Congressional authority on policy and legal remedies for prevention, attendees will explore national youth protection and K-12 specific trends and data analysis, best practices and exercises to help their schools assess their cultures of safety, and mitigate challenges in maintaining the momentum of prevention efforts.

    Learning Objective: Participants will learn national youth protection and K-12 specific trends and data analysis, tips on how to create a culture of safety through best practices in a range of operational areas and common situations on and off campus, and tips on how to maintain the momentum of prevention efforts in their schools.

    Kick off your annual meeting experience with a unique opportunity to connect with fellow attendees who have similar job duties, school missions or communities. Enjoy a drink with your colleagues and get to know each other prior to attending the opening reception. The cohort receptions take place before the opening reception on Sunday, February 23. This year, visit cohort receptions for Canadian Schools, International Schools, Boarding Schools, New Business Officers (< 3 years), Seasoned Business Officers (> 10 years), Controllers and Human Resources.

    Please note: the cohort receptions are open to attendees from schools only. During registration, please indicate which reception you might attend. You may attend more than one cohort reception.

    Enjoy drinks and local food on the Gaylord Palms Coquina Lawn for the 2020 NBOA Annual Meeting Opening Reception! Mingle with colleagues and experience all that the venue has to offer during this signature event. See a great music performance by the Pan Paradise Band. Be sure to get your souvenir photo taken with the Net Assets Magazine cover backdrop and stop by and pick up a postcard from our watercolor postcard artist creating take home masterpieces!

    Guest tickets will be available for sale onsite at this reception for $95 per guest – paid only by credit card. Guests must be 21 years of age to attend.
